Bill Carlile

Bill CarlileBill Carlile heads up Business Capital’s M&A and Private Equity efforts. For the past twenty years, Bill has served as an investment banker working for boutique investment banking firms assisting privately held and small cap companies on sell-side and buy-side transactions and in raising equity/mezzanine capital.  He has worked with companies in numerous industry sectors including retail, internet, clean-tech, education, service, catalog, manufacturing, subcontractors, software, and distributors; and has advised companies in all stages of growth: startup, expansion, and mature firms

He has parleyed this expertise into an underserved niche, helping small to mid-cap companies needing professional investment banking advice, but where the size of the potential transaction falls below the investment banks’ minimum transaction size.  Because of overhead and minimum fee requirements, investment banks are frequently not able to address the needs of smaller companies or do not offer objective advice on transactions that do not match their investor or referral base or leverage their trading and research infrastructure. The investment banks also tend to focus on a client’s immediate transaction requirements, whereas smaller companies often need professional, objective advice well before attempting to execute a transaction in order to properly prepare and position the company for either a sale or capital raise.

In contrast, Bill assists clients in preparing and positioning their firms for a transaction and advises them in executing M&A or capital raising transactions. With a lower overhead, clients are provided with a much more cost-effective service.

Prior to investment banking, Bill served as Managing Director of the Financial Services Division of Wells Fargo Securities, where he was responsible for initiating and executing corporate finance transactions in a wide variety of industry sectors.  He also has over 15 years of commercial banking expertise, serving as a Senior and Regional Vice President and as a Managing Director of Corporate Finance with Union Bank.

Bill received his MBA from the University of California at Berkeley with an emphasis in finance and marketing. In addition to his investment banking consulting practice, he currently teaches Corporate Finance at the San Francisco State University MBA.
